It’s a well-researched phenomenon that people who live in certain parts of France where red wine is commonly consumed during meals having fewer cases of death from coronary heart disease, even though these people live a lifestyle that’s considered to have higher risks than those living in the United States and other developed countries. Studies show that this phenomenon may be due to the many cardio protective benefits of red wine. To buy good quality wine reach out to the Avon, Colorado liquor stores.
Taking advantage of the health benefits of red wine is not a new practice. Research conducted at Harvard University found a jar in the tomb of King Scorpion I, dating back to 3150 B.C., that contains traces of wine along with herbal residue. Based on the findings, researchers attest to the great antiquity of Egyptian herbal wines as medicine and their importance under the pharaohs during the country’s initial unification. These wines contained dissolved herbs, including balm, mint, sage, thyme, juniper berries, honey and frankincense, and they were consumed to treat a number of health conditions, from digestive issues to herpes.
Aside from the knowledge of our ancestors, who used wine to treat ailments and disease, thousands of studies published over the span of several decades have proved that red wine, when consumed in moderation, can have a positive effect on the health of your heart, improve cognitive function, reduce oxidative stress and even normalize blood sugar levels. When consumed in small amounts, red wine can be considered a super-food that provides powerful antioxidants that heal the body at a cellular level, like quercetin and resveratrol. That’s why the benefits of red wine are so plentiful when you consume it in moderation.
Top Benefits of Red Wine :
Boosts Heart Health
Active compounds in red wine, including polyphenols, resveratrol and quercetin, have proved to have cardio protective properties. Numerous cross-sectional, observational and controlled studies show that drinking moderate amounts of red wine has beneficial effects on many different aspects related cardiovascular disease.
Research shows that the antioxidant nutrients in red wine can slow down the progression of atherosclerosis, a type of arteriosclerosis that occurs when there’s buildup of fats, cholesterol and plaque in the artery walls. One study, published in the International Journal of Molecule Medicine, found that moderate alcohol intake, especially red wine, decreased cardiac mortality due to atherosclerosis, but people who didn’t drink any red wine and people who drank too much red wine were at a higher risk of cardiac mortality.
There’s also plenty of evidence supporting the beneficial role of resveratrol, which protects the heart cells from tissue damage after a stroke, inhibits platelet buildup, and decreases triglyceride and cholesterol accumulation. Resveratrol has also been shown to relax the coronary arteries, making it at least partly responsible for the red wine benefits that are associated with cardiovascular disease.
Quercetin, one of the most important flavonoids present in red wine, has also proved to promote heart health by regulating blood pressure levels, reducing inflammation and preventing oxidative stress.
Improves Cholesterol
According to a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, wine consumption was associated with a significant increase in HDL cholesterol, with participants seeing their levels improve by 11 % to 16 %.
Another study, conducted at Curtin University in Australia, found that regular consumption of red wine reduced the risk of developing cardiovascular disease by lowering LDL cholesterol levels in postmenopausal women by 8 percent and increased HDL cholesterol levels by 17 %.
Fights Free Radical Damage
The accumulation of free radicals plays a major role in the development of chronic and degenerative diseases, including cancer, autoimmune diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative diseases. The antioxidants in red wine help counteract oxidative stress by acting as free radical scavengers that prevent and repair damage caused by oxidation. Antioxidants enhance the body’s immune defenses and lower the risk of developing a number of serious health conditions.
Because of its ability to fight free radical damage, resveratrol found in red wine has the ability to block the multistep process of carcinogenesis, including the various stages of tumor initiation, promotion and progression. Resveratrol is involved in the downregulation of the body’s inflammatory responses.
Helps Manage Diabetes
Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have found that red wine may slow the passage of glucose through the small intestine and eventually into the bloodstream, helping prevent the spike in blood sugar levels experienced by patients with type 2 diabetes. This research proves that because of the benefits of red wine, it can actually be part of a diabetic diet plan when consumed in moderation.
Both red and white wines were tested to determine how well they could inhibit the activity of an enzyme that’s responsible for triggering the absorption of glucose. Researchers found that red wine was the clear winner, inhibiting the enzymes by nearly 100 percent, while values for white wine were around 20 percent. The efficacy of red wine was so significant because it contains roughly 10 times more polyphenolics (a type of antioxidants) than white wine.
In addition to these findings, the study found another red wine benefit, which is that it had no effect on a pancreatic enzyme that breaks down starch and is needed by patients to avoid the side effects of blood sugar medications.
Fights Obesity and Weight Gain
A study conducted at Purdue University found that red wine may help to fight obesity. This is due to a compound found in grapes and other fruits (like blueberries and passionfruit) called piceatannol, which has a similar chemical structure to resveratrol. According to researchers, piceatannol blocks an immature fat cell’s ability to develop and grow. It’s also been found to alter the timing of gene expressions, gene functions and insulin functions during the fat cell’s metabolic process.
When piceatannol is present, there’s a complete inhibition of adipogenesis, the process of cell development. Piceatannol is so effective at fighting obesity and weight gain because it’s able to destroy fat cells early in the process of cell development, thereby preventing fat cell accumulation and, later on, body mass gain. It does this by binding to insulin receptors found in fat cells and blocking insulin’s ability to control cell cycles. It also blocks insulin’s activity to activate genes that are important in the later stages of fat formation.
May Help Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease
Research indicates that people who eat a Mediterranean diet, consisting of red wine, vegetables, legumes, fruits, fish and olive oil, have a 28 percent lower risk of developing mild cognitive impairment and a 48 percent lower risk of progressing from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s disease.
There’s even more research on the red wine specifically as a preventive measure and natural treatment for Alzheimer’s. According to research published in Frontiers in Aging and Neuroscience, resveratrol may control the main features of Alzheimer’s disease and slow dementia progression. This is due to resveratrol’s ability to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, and work as a neuroprotectant.
Vodka is a liquor beverage that’s popular all over the world. But very few know about the beauty benefits of vodka. If you’re concerned about your looks and love vodka at the same time, then you can use the beverage has a home-made hack to beautify yourself.
Beauty Benefits Of Vodka
Vodka Cleanses Your Skin
Vodka is prepared from natural ingredients like potatoes, cereals, and grapevines. It undergoes fermentation and is then mixed with various other ingredients for flavoring and branding. But vodka, in its purest form, is still a natural ingredient.
You can use this alcoholic beverage to cleanse and tone your skin. Because of pollution and sun exposure, our skin gets damaged day in and day out. Thus, it requires repair, just like an everyday used vehicle. Vodka can benefit your skin for this matter. Start by preparing a vodka-based face mask. For this, you need:
0.15 ounce of vodka
1 tbsp lemon juice
½ tbsp strongly brewed rose hips tea
Mix them to prepare a solution. Apply this on your skin and massage for a few minutes. Keep the mask on your skin for 5-10 before washing it off.
To remove this face mask, you can use cotton to wipe off the liquid and then wash your face. You’ll see a clearer skin instantly, which will last many hours.
Vodka Is An Anti-Aging Remedy
Besides cleansing your face, vodka can also tone your skin. It will make you look younger and rejuvenated. For your anti-aging requirements, you’re probably using lotions. They claim to close the skin pores. But in reality, none of the cosmetic products actually do so. Instead, they form a layer on top of the skin. That’s why many people complain of skin irritation after using these products.
Vodka is made from potatoes and grapevines. These tighten the pores and prevent the folds and wrinkles in addition to forming the layer. Thanks to its antiseptic nature, it doesn’t allow for bacterial growth on the skin either. So both men and women will benefit from vodka to look younger.
To prepare a face mask, mix three tbsp of vodka and one tbsp of rose water with two cups of filtered water. You can either massage the solution on your skin or put it into a water bottle and then spray it onto your skin. Leave the solution for a few minutes. Then wipe it off with a cotton pad and unclog your pores for them to breathe.
Doing this once a week will benefit your skin in many ways.
Remove Makeup With Vodka
If you love to wear makeup all day or your job requires you to do so, then vodka can help you to remove it at the end of the day. This is because vodka is a cleaning agent. Take a few drops of vodka and 2 cups of water and wash your face off. This should remove all the chemical products you had applied to your face.
Vodka Therapy for Shiny Hair
You might have heard about how beer aids hair health. It’s not the beer that benefits the skin, but the alcohol. Vodka is a spirit, and spirits have about 30-40% alcohol in them. This makes them a great candidate for hair treatment.
By applying vodka to your hair, you can reduce hair frizz. Its low pH levels and high acidic content can work around your cuticles and give you an all-day shiny look. But it’s not wise to apply vodka directly in your hair. Instead, you need to prepare a vodka-based hair mask. For this, take the following ingredients:
0.50 ounce vodka
1 tbsp mayonnaise
1 beaten egg
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp olive oil
Mix all the ingredients and set aside for 10-15 minutes. Then wet your hair apply the mixture. Massage the hair and the scalp thoroughly and leave it for 10 minutes or so. Wash off your hair. This hair mask will also provide the necessary conditioning and nourish hair from within. So you don’t have to apply a separate conditioner.
Vodka Fights Dandruff And Strengthens Hair
One long term benefit of applying vodka to your hair is dandruff-free strong hair. This is especially true if you have dry hair, which is causing loss of hair. Dandruff can accelerate this process by flaking the skin of your scalp. But with favorite alcoholic beverage, vodka, you can halt both.
If you’re suffering from dandruff and hair loss, then you can mix a mug of water with 1 tbsp of vodka. You can then apply this to your hair post shampooing and conditioning. This removes product buildup and strands.
Another remedy is to use vodka with a few drops of lemon and rosemary. Lemon will bleach and oxidize your hair, while rosemary will provide the necessary oil. Mix the ingredients together and store them in a safe place for two days. Massage the hair before showering and then wash your hair properly.
You should choose the remedy you’re comfortable with.
Vodka Also Fights Foot Odor
Alcohol has antimicrobial properties. That’s why it is the main constituent of hand sanitizers. The alcohol denatures proteins of the microbes that cause smelly feet. Once denatured, they are either deactivated or destroyed. Either way, your food odor will eventually fade away. So if you’re out of foot wash scrub, but have vodka left in your fridge, you can use it. Simply take 10 ml of vodka in a saucer and rub it in your feet for a few minutes. Wash off your feet under running water. Vodka is also a good disinfectant and antiseptic. So you can use it for other body parts as well.
Conclusion
These were some of the beauty benefits of vodka. Vodka, as a beauty remedy, may sound peculiar or even funny at first. But you’d be amazed to see the results within few days. And vodka isn’t too expensive either. But whenever you go to the liquor store in Avon, CO to purchase, you should look for the purity with no flavoring agents added. Otherwise, this can alter its natural properties.
Six reasons why a bottle of wine as a gift is just brilliant
Some people (like me)are afraid of what to choose as gifts, and they keep putting off the decision until it’s too late.
It’s really hard to choose the “right” gift, especially when you have to give it to someone you don’t know too well, such as your colleague, your boss, or a friend’s girlfriend.
But I’d like to tell you something confidentially: I’ve discovered over the last few years that there’s a gift for all situations; a gift that always works: wine.
The following are the reasons why I came to the conclusion that giving wine as a gift is a fantastic idea.
It’s practically never left on the shelf to collect dust
Ever notice how she never wears that “fantastic” sweater you gave to her as a gift? Well, that’s when you start going paranoid because you gave her the “wrong” gift.
Oh, I can’t count the number of times I let my grandmother down!
On the other hand with wine you’re sure to be successful: this product is easily consumed and it’s quite rare to meet someone who NEVER drinks it – or who doesn’t have friends who drink it.
During festivities (like Christmas or Easter) there are numerous occasions to drink a glass or two: business and family lunches and dinners, aperitifs, exchanging gifts with friends and dear ones.
So it’s highly unlikely your gift will be left to collect dust on a shelf, unless of course it wasn’t made to do just that, like a bottle of Barolo vintage 1990 ;-).
There’s an old Italian saying, “If you don’t drink in company, you’re either a thief or a spy”.
It’s convivial
Wine is usually enjoyed in company: what better gift to celebrate a long-lasting friendship?
And we mustn’t forget, wine warms the body and the soul; after a couple of glasses (I recommend to drink carefully!) it makes everyone a lot more jollier, and having a bottle on the table always adds that extra touch of conviviality.
I like the idea that my gift can be used to celebrate the most beautiful moments we spend with our friends or family.
You leave a good impression
Wine is a chic product, but not snob and it’s ideal for any situation: you’ll surely leave a great impression regardless of the occasion.
Wine, unlike other chic products, such as perfume, for example, is a much less risky purchase: choosing the right wine is easy, choosing the right perfume… is not so easy.
Finally, showing up with a bottle of wine gives you the charm of connoisseur and the air of a worldly man (or woman): your vanity will certainly be rewarded.
But I highly recommend you get to know the history and characteristics of the wine you’re giving as a gift when purchasing it: who produced it, where and how and with what food to pair it with.
So you’ll also have a fascinating story to tell while giving the precious present.
There’s wine for all budgets
If price is a problem, wine (even prestigious wines) offers the possibility to suit all budgets.
With 15-20€ you can take home a bottle of quality DOC or DOCG certified wine, produced by craftsmen and with a story to tell.
With 30-40€ you can buy a bottle of a prestigious wine such as Barolo or Barbaresco.
And if you can manage buying it directly at the Avon, CO liquor store , the prices drop even further.
It can be precious…
If, however, you have delusions of grandeur and you love to give precious and very expensive gifts (it happens to me every now and then), you can’t go wrong when it comes to wine.
There’s an incredibly wide choice among great red wines, prestigious sparkling wines and vintages. Here in the Langhe we have the Barolo and the Barbaresco for example.
If you’re interested in the Italian market there’s Brunello and Sassicaia in Tuscany and Amarone in the Veneto region.
And of course let’s not forget French wines; Champagne, Borgogna and Bordeaux offer centuries of tradition in just one bottle.
Those who receive your gift will no doubt have a princely evening.
…which will last in time.
Some wines, if the type and the vintage are chosen correctly, can age for tens of years.
Wine is a great gift for anniversaries and birthdays, or for special people, who can preserve it for a long time and eventually open the bottle for that special occasion.
And if things go wrong… it can be easily recycled
If you got it wrong, don’t worry: wine is a 100% recyclable gift for the reasons listed above.
Even if the person you gave the wine to doesn’t drink, he/she will no doubt have a party or dinner to go to where they can “pass on” the gift to someone else.
The only difference is that in this case you won’t feel guilty: they’ll be putting your gift to good use 🙂

ROSÉ WINE 101 — WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS POPULAR WINE
We probably don’t need to tell you that rosé wine has become extremely popular over the past few years. Virtually nonexistent on restaurant menus and wine shelves a decade ago, it seems that you can’t go anywhere without seeing or hearing about this pink beverage of choice. A trend that some say was nurtured by celebrities and social media, rosé is clearly the wine of the times.
Whether you enjoy drinking rosé regularly, or you’ve never really given it a try, we think much of what makes wine fun and interesting is knowing its story. Read our blog and then stop by our store today to check out our large selection of rosé and other wines.
WHAT KIND OF WINE IS ROSÉ?
When people ask what kind of wine is in a particular bottle, the answer that follows usually describes the type of grape that is used to make the wine or the region in which the wine is produced.
For instance, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Riesling are all grape varieties. When you hear the terms Bordeaux, Burgundy, or Champagne — those are all names for the region in which the wine was made. Keep in mind that there can be several different grapes varieties used in wines labeled for their region, but there are rules stating which ones are allowed and which aren’t. For instance, there are only six different grapes allowed in making a red Bordeaux. But we digress…
The question that many people want to know is, “What kind of grapes are used in making rosé wine”? The fact is, rosé wines don’t have the same rules and regulations as some other wines. The term “rosé” is simply used to describe the color of the wine. And, contrary to popular belief, the pink color of the wine doesn’t come from a hybrid pink grape. While there are multiple methods for making rosé wine, the finished wine color can be attributed to the skins of a red varietal of grape.
In one of the most popular methods of making rosé, red grapes are crushed and left to sit in contact with their skins. The longer the juice remains in contact with the skins, the darker the wine color will be. It doesn’t take long — 24 hours tops — to produce the signature bright pink color, after which the skins are strained from the juice.
WHERE IS ROSÉ MADE?
Rosé production isn’t limited to any one particular area — especially since any kind of grape can be used to make it. Great rosés are made in California, Italy, Spain, and Australia, just to name a few. However, the original and most popular location for the best rosés is in France. You’ll find French rosé to typically be lighter in color, and much drier than many of their counterparts.
WHAT DOES ROSÉ TASTE LIKE?
One of the reasons why rosé has become so popular is because of its light, refreshing flavor. Keep in mind that because rosé can be made with any type of grape, you’ll find a lot of variation from brand to brand. Like any wine, you can find a whole spectrum of colors, flavors, and intensities, but many rosés that you will taste will have bright, fruity, citrusy notes. Flavors commonly described are strawberry, grapefruit, rose petal, raspberry, melon, and even celery.
WHAT TYPE OF FOOD DOES ROSÉ PAIR WITH?
Because of its light, fruity flavor rosé is known to pair well with just about anything. This makes it a favorite to bring to dinner parties and picnics — especially when you don’t know what’s being served, or you know that there will be a variety of foods being served. The fruit flavors in rosé pair well with meats and spicy foods. The tart, citrusy notes make it pair well with salads and fish. There are very few dishes that rosé doesn’t pair well with, so it’s a safe bet if you aren’t sure what to have.
HOW SHOULD YOU SERVE IT?
We typically like to say that you should enjoy your wine however you like it. Some people prefer to have their wine chilled, while others prefer that it be closer to room temperature. In the case of rosé, it’s almost always chilled before drinking. This doesn’t mean that you should pull it out of your 40-degree refrigerator and start drinking. Even wines that are best served chilled should be somewhere between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit when you consume them.
WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE LIKE IT?
Rosé wine is one of the most popular wines of the decade, and it’s easy to see why. For people who are looking for something that is easy to drink and pairs well with whatever is on their plate, it’s hard to find a more versatile wine than rosé. Because it’s widely available and fairly simple to make, it’s also often priced lower than other wines. And, for people who find the world of wine to be complicated and even intimidating, rosé is a great gateway into what could quite possibly be your favorite new hobby.
